Nonprofit website redesign · via Develop for Good · 2024

A civic-tech nonprofit equipping youth and communities to fight injustice with data — and a website that wasn't doing the mission justice.

Trubel&Co runs civic-tech education programs for youth and nonprofits across the US — teaching geospatial tools, data storytelling, and AI to communities fighting environmental and social injustice. With 850+ workshop participants and 6,000+ students impacted, the mission is real. The website wasn't keeping up.

I came in through Develop for Good, a program that places college students on pro-bono tech projects for nonprofits.

Phase 01 · Product Designer

Owning the Impact page

As one of seven designers on a four-month redesign, I owned the Impact page end to end — from initial wireframes through rounds of usability testing to final implementation in Squarespace.

The team restructured the site's information architecture and built an accessible design system. My deliverable: a page that made Trubel&Co's impact legible and compelling to donors, partners, and potential participants.

What I owned:

  • Impact page IA and wireframes — first draft through final
  • Component design for impact stats and program cards
  • Usability testing sessions and synthesizing findings
  • Squarespace implementation and QA

Phase 02 · Product Manager

Leading the redesign

In the second phase I stepped into the PM role — leading the full site redesign rather than executing within it. That meant owning scope, coordinating a cross-functional team, prioritizing decisions, and driving to launch.

The designer-to-PM arc within one project is the story here: having designed a page in phase one gave me grounded context that made me a better PM in phase two — I knew exactly where the design decisions lived and how to unblock the team.

  • Defined project scope and success metrics
  • Ran weekly team standups and design reviews
  • Stakeholder communication with Trubel&Co leadership
  • Final launch sign-off and handoff

The site is up

The redesigned Trubel&Co website is live at trubel.co — serving youth programs, nonprofit partners, and donors across the US.

Trubel&Co runs Mapping Justice, GIS workshops, and data storytelling programs for 6,000+ students, teachers, and practitioners. The site had to speak to all of them.
